Ronald Koeman says he has no intentions of cutting short Steven Caulker’s loan spell at the club despite barely featuring for the club.
Southampton signed the England defender on a season-long loan deal from Queens Park Rangers in a bid to bolster their defensive options but the 24-year-old hasn’t featured with Jose Fonte and Virgil van Djik Koeman’s preferred central partnership.
There had been suggestions Caulker would return to his parent club in the New Year, but Koeman insists he wants to keep him until the end of the season.
“My plan is for him to stay for the full season and then we will see,” Koeman is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
Caulker has only made one Premier League start this season and was found particularly wanting in their 6-1 demolition at the hands of Liverpool in the League Cup earlier this month. Caulker has also lost more aerial duels (5) than he has won (4) in his three appearances this season.
