Barcelona to target World Cup winner

Barcelona are weighing up a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, according to Bild.

Hummels, 27, has been regularly linked with a move away from the Bundesliga giants with Arsenal and Manchester United among the top European clubs regularly mooted with a move for the central defender.

However, both Premier League sides could be powerless should reigning European champions Barcelona intervene and step up their interest in the Dortmund man.

His contract is due to expire in 2017 and his future will need to be sorted in the summer in order to give Dortmund time to demand a sizeable fee if he signals his intentions to turn down any contract renewal.

Hummels’ defending still has a lot to be desired but his ability on the ball, as demonstrated with the assist for Marco Reus’ goal against Liverpool in the Europa League earlier this month.

In fact, of players to have made more than 10 appearances in the Europa League  this season, only two players boost a higher pass success than Hummels (89%).
