Crystal Palace have announced former Ajax and Inter head coach Frank de Boer as their new manager after concluding an extensive month-long search for Sam Allardyce’s replacement.
The Eagles have been looking for a new manager since Allardyce announced his shock decision to retire at the end of last season and Palace have now appointed De Boer on a three-year deal.
The Dutchman has been out of work since being sacked as Inter manger in November after just 85 days in charge of the Serie A giants, but De Boer has finally moved to England after years of being linked with Premier League jobs.
“I am thrilled to be appointed as manager of Crystal Palace Football Club,” he told the club’s official website. “It is a great honour to take charge of such an historic club, a club that is known around the world for its hugely proud and passionate fan base.
“The role is a hugely exciting opportunity for me, and I cannot wait to get started in the Premier League with the players and staff here in south London.”
Palace will hope De Boer’s time at Inter, where he gambled on taking the job just before last season started, will prove a mere blip in his managerial career having led Ajax to four straight Eredivisie titles before that. In fact, he is the only manager to have done that in Eredivisie history.
