Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is interested in signing Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson on loan in January, according to The Birmingham Mail.
With Ritchie da Laet out for the season and doubts over Alan Hutton and Leandro Bacuna’s quality, the right side of Villa’s defence is arguable a weak point in the side as they look to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Bruce’s interest in Jenkinson would further highlight that fact, with the Villa boss keen to take the out-of-favour Arsenal defender on loan for the remainder of the season to bolster their promotion push.
The 24-year-old had started November in the Arsenal first-team after filling in for the injured Hector Bellerin before losing his place in the team to Gabriel, a centre back by trade, after Arsene Wenger revealed the player was suffering from social media abuse in reference to his performances.
Jenkinson has struggled for first team football since joining Arsenal in 2011, only managing more than 15 league starts in one campaign since then, which came during his first season on loan at West Ham in 2014/15.
