Arsenal are weighing up a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Omer Toprak should a deal for Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi collapse, according to Sky Sports, via Get German Football.
Arsene Wenger is already dealing with a mini-defensive crisis after losing Per Mertesacker and Gabriel to long-term injuries and they have been heavily linked with a move for Mustafi as a result.
However, Arsenal are reportedly baulking at Valencia’s £30m valuation of the Germany international and are now assessing alternative options in case they cannot get a deal for their main target over the line.
Toprak, 27, has been spent the last five years with Leverkusen after making the switch from fellow German side Freiburg in 2011 and has been a steady performer for the Bundesliga outfit.
Since then only Lars Bender (349) has completed more interceptions for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga than Toprak (280).
