The agent of Marco Verratti has revealed the midfielder could leave Paris Saint-Germain if the French media continue to heavily criticise his performances.
Verratti, 23, has struggled to produce his best form this season under new PSG manager Unai Emery and there have been suggestions the pair are not on best terms.
The Italy international, who has struggled with reoccurring injuries in the last few years, has only started six of PSG’s 11 league games this season and has been hauled off before the hour mark in each of their last two matches.
Verratti is widely regarded as one of the best up-and-coming midfielders in Europe and would not be short of suitors should he leave PSG, which his agent, Donato Di Campli, has revealed could happen.
“I remain stunned when I read certain criticism,” Di Campli told Rai Sport, via Football Italia. The French press ought to be honoured and thank their lucky stars if Marco plays in Paris, otherwise they’d be reporting on friendly games between locals.
“If they continue like this, he really will leave Paris. It’s not just the media, but others who criticise him and don’t understand football.
“I speak to other clubs and coaches in other teams who think very differently.”
Since the start of the season only PSG teammates Thiago Motta (94.6) and Thiago Silva (89.3) average more passes per game in Ligue 1 than Verratti (76.6).
