Swansea move for Palace striker

Swansea have tabled an initial £7.5m bid for Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle, according to The Guardian.

Francesco Guidolin is looking to strengthen his offensive options and is already closing in on Chievo striker Alberto Paloschi amid reports suggesting Bafetimbi Gomis is on his way out of the Liberty City Stadium this month.

The Eagles accepted a £9m bid from Bristol City in the summer but Gayle wasn’t interested in making the step down to the Championship and opted to remain at the club where he hasn’t had a look in under Alan Pardew.

Palace have reportedly rejected Swansea’s approach, even though they have matched their valuation of the player. With only four days of the transfer window remaining, Palace do not believe they would have the sufficient time to find an adequate replacement.

Gayle, who joined Palace for as a then club-transfer record (£3.5m) in 2013, has only started 23 league games in his three campaigns at the club. However, Palace player requires fewer minutes per goal in the league than Gayle in that time (195.5 mins).
