Henderson ready to replace De Gea at Manchester United

England Under-21 international Dean Henderson insists he is ready to replace David de Gea as Manchester United’s first choice goalkeeper.

De Gea has one year left on his current deal and Paris Saint-Germain are expected to test United’s resolve with a £60m bid this summer.

United do not want to sell the Spain international but could end up losing him for nothing next summer.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a number of potential replacements but academy graduate Henderson feels he is ready to make the step up.

“It sounds unbelievable,” Henderson told The Daily Mail when asked how it feels to be described as a Premier League goalkeeper.

“That was the dream as a kid growing up, what you always aspire to be. You always watch Premier League Years on the telly and to know that could be me next year, I can’t wait.

“Whether that is at Manchester United, Sheffield United, wherever, I’m good enough to be a Premier League goalkeeper. I deserve that chance.

“It’s a tough one to say where. But do I think I should be playing at Manchester United now? Yes I do.

“I think I am good enough and I would help the team a lot, in a positive way. If not there I’m sure I could go back to Sheffield United, play a season and then I’ll prove to Manchester United what they are missing.”

Henderson spent last season on loan at Sheffield United and played a key part in the club’s promotion from the Championship.

The Blades are desperate to retain Henderson’s services for next season but could face competition for his signature this summer.

Henderson is currently preparing for the U21 European Championships and a solid tournament for England will only increase his reputation.

The 22-year-old kept more clean sheets (21) than any other goalkeeper in the Championship last season.
