Manchester United will be without Bastian Schweinsteiger for a further four weeks before the midfielder can return from his knee injury, reports The Daily Mail.
Schweinsteiger, 31, has missed United’s last nine games since turning out in the FA Cup against Sheffield United at the start of January.
The Germany captain has disappointed since making the switch from Bayern Munich over the summer but his absence still represents a big blow given their current injury crisis with more than a dozen players currently sidelined.
And now Louis van Gaal must wait until March before being able to bring Schweinsteiger back into the first-team after the midfielder sustained a setback in his recovery.
While Schweinsteiger’s influence in games has been clearly lacking, his presence on the pitch has been good in encouraging the likes of Chris Smalling to step out from defence with the ball.
However, while he has neither provided a good attacking outlet, nor an adequate defensive shield, it is not surprising to see that while United have only lost twice from his 13 starts in the league this season, they have drawn six of those matches compared to marginally higher win percentage with him out of the team (46.2%).
