Leicester to offer Maguire new deal amid Manchester United interest

Leicester will offer Harry Maguire a bumper new deal when he returns from the 2018 World Cup to fend off interest from Manchester United, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Maguire has been a revelation for England this summer and has caught the eye of United manager Jose Mourinho, who wants to sign another centre-back before next season.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld but have no interest in reviving talks with their Premier League rivals at the moment.

United are willing to pay up to three times what Leicester shelled out to sign Maguire from Hull 12 months ago but the Foxes want to keep their £17m investment.

Claude Puel’s side are poised to offer Maguire a new £80,000-a-week long-term deal but it remains to be seen whether that will be enough to ward off interest from United.

As well as resolving Maguire’s long-term future, Leicester are also working on new contracts for Jamie Vardy and Wilfred Ndidi, who are both key players for the Foxes.

Only Artem Dzyuba (41) has won more aerial duels than Maguire (40) at the 2018 World Cup.
