Manchester City ready to send outcast defender on loan to Newcastle
Newcastle are set to benefit from Aymeric Laporte’s impending Manchester City arrival by taking Eliaquim Mangala off their hands for the remainder of the season, claims The Daily Mirror.
Spanish side Athletic Club announced on Monday afternoon that City had triggered Laporte’s €65m release clause and Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to announce his arrival on Tuesday.
Laporte’s arrival would dispense with the need of Mangala, who is only at the club because City failed to sign a fourth centre-back in the summer.
The 26-year-old joined City from Porto in a stunning £32m in 2014 but the powerful defender has been nothing short of a disaster and has no future at the club.
Guardiola’s side are now understood to be in talks with Newcastle about sending Mangala to St. James’ Park for the remainder of the season but it require the Premier League leaders to subsidise most of his £80,000-a-week wages.
Mangala has only featured in one of City’s seven fixtures in 2018 but finally looks set to secure regular playing time elsewhere before Wednesday’s deadline.
