Real Madrid ready blockbuster move for former Barcelona star

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is readying a world record blockbuster £259m move for PSG star and former Barcelona ace Neymar, reports Sport.

The Brazilian secured a £198m switch to France in 2017, but has been routinely linked with a return to Spain throughout the duration of his time with the Ligue 1 powerhouse.

Perez is a long-term fan of Neymar and is looking to make a statement signing in the wake of Real Madrid’s Copa Del Rey and Champions League exits at the hands of Barcelona and Ajax, respectively.

With this current cycle in Spain drawing to a close, Perez is keen to assemble a squad capable of challenging for top honours once more, both domestically and on the continent.

And he’s eyed Neymar as the poster boy for the next phase in Real Madrid’s history.

Perez failed to sufficiently replace Cristiano Ronaldo following his departure for Juventus and the club are feeling the effects of the Portuguese’s switch to Italy.

Neymar missed PSG’s Champions League exit at the hands of Manchester United due to injury, but has impressed in France’s top tier having scored 13 goals and registered six assists to return a WhoScored rating of 8.53.
