Germany international ruled out of Euros with serious knee injury

Germany have announced Antonio Rudiger has been ruled out of the Euros after tearing cruciate knee ligaments in training on Tuesday.

Rudiger, 23, was in contention to start at the heart of Germany’s defence alongside Jerome Boateng in the group matches as Mats Hummels continues to build his fitness.

However, the Roma defender, who has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks, broke down in training at the squad’s training base in France.

Germany head coach Joachim Low has already taken the decision to replace Rudiger in the squad with highly rated 20-year-old Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen.
