West Brom reject Leicester bid for Manchester City target

West Brom have rejected a £21m bid for Manchester City target Jonny Evans from Premier League rivals Leicester City, reports Sky Sports. 

The Baggies are desperate to retain the 29-year-old’s services this summer, though the Northern Ireland international is yet to feature for the Midlands side this season through injury. 

Manchester City are keen on landing Evans and are thought to be in pole position to sign the centre-back, but have already seen an £18m bid for the former Manchester United defender turned down by West Brom. 

Speculation suggests that City are still keen on signing Evans before Thursday’s transfer deadline and it’s rumoured that they could include Eliaquim Mangala in any potential deal. 

However, Leicester have now entered the race to sign Evans, yet their offer of £21m falls below the Baggies’ valuation of the experienced centre-back. 

Evans discussed the reports linking him with a move away in West Brom’s programme notes ahead of their 1-1 draw with Stoke on Sunday, saying: "Obviously, there's been a bit of speculation around my future here but from my point of view, it's very simple. 

"All I've been concentrating on is getting fit and getting back out on the pitch and doing my bit for the team. 

"Every window there's always speculation over transfers but as players these things are often out of your control and it's best not to think about it too much. 

"Until anybody tells me different, I'm only committed to Albion and I'm only thinking about getting in this team. It's a great club and I'm proud to be captain."
