Bayern Munich interested in swoop for Manchester United target

Bayern Munich could still offer Toby Alderweireld a way out of Tottenham this month, claims The Daily Mirror.

Alderweireld has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal and has dropped down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino in that time.

The Belgium international was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United before the deadline for English clubs shut last week but Jose Mourinho’s side failed to prise him away from their rivals.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy slapped a £75m valuation on his head at the start of the summer and United were not willing to pay anywhere near that much for the 29-year-old.

However, Bayern have now earmarked Alderweireld as a potential replacement for Jerome Boateng, who is free to leave the Bundesliga champions this month.

United were also linked with a move for the Germany international but the Premier League giants were snubbed by the 29-year-old.

Boateng has reportedly agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain and the Ligue 1 side now just need to broker a fee with Bayern, who are demanding in the region of £40m.

Bayern are unlikely to be willing to match Tottenham’s valuation of Alderweireld so it remains to be seen whether Levy is willing to lower his demands for a foreign side.

Of outfielders that have made at least five Premier League appearances since the start of last season, Alderweireld averages the most long balls per game (7.9).
