Arsenal make progress on Ramsey’s new contract

Arsenal have made positive steps in their pursuit of securing Aaron Ramsey’s long-term future, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Ramsey’s existing contract is due to expire at the end of next season and there were doubts whether he would pledge his future to the club.

The Wales international wants a significant wage hike in order to commit to a new Arsenal contract and the Gunners are confident of reaching an agreement.

New Arsenal manager Unai Emery reportedly wants to build his midfield around Ramsey, which has already led to Jack Wilshere announcing his departure from the club this summer.

Arsenal handed out big contracts to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the start of the year and Ramsey wants terms that reflects his importance at the Emirates.

Emery wants Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey to play either side of Sampdoria starlet Lucas Torreira, who is close to completing a deal to north London.

Only Alexandre Lacazette (18) scored and assisted more Premier League goals for Arsenal than Ramsey (15) last season.
