Real Madrid target in talks for new Manchester United deal

Manchester United have entered contract talks with star striker Marcus Rashford to secure his long-term future, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Rashford has usurped Romelu Lukaku in the pecking order as United’s first choice striker under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the past and United are determined to end any speculation by handing Rashford an improved new deal.

Rashford was reportedly growing frustrated at United during the end of Jose Mourinho’s tenure but has flourished since Solskjaer was placed in interim charge before Christmas.

Anthony Martial ended any uncertainty about his United future by signing a new long-term deal last week and now the Red Devils are looking to take care of Rashford’s future.

The England international’s existing deal is due to expire at the end of next season, though United have an option to extend that by a further 12 months, effectively keeping Rashford at Old Trafford until the summer of 2021.

Rashford capped his 100th Premier League appearance with the match-winning goal in United’s 1-0 win over Leicester on Sunday.

The United No.10 is enjoying his best ever campaign in front of goal and there are still four months left of the season to go (nine league goals).

Rashford has netted six goals in eight Premier League games under Solskjaer, double his tally in the 14 league appearances he made under Mourinho this term (three).
