Tottenham close in on Barcelona reject

Tottenham are set to make their first signing since January 2018 with the capture of Andre Gomes from Barcelona, reports Spanish publication Sport.

Champions League hero Lucas Moura was the last player Spurs signed, with the Brazilian arriving from PSG almost 18 months ago.

However, the squad is in desperate need of investment and Gomes looks set to become Spurs’ first signing of the summer, with it rumoured Spurs will pay €30m to secure his services, though a fee is yet to be agreed.

The Portugal international has spent the season on loan with Everton and has impressed at Goodison Park, with the Toffees eager to make his move permanent.

Gomes, though, is keen on a move to Spurs, who coincidentally face Everton on the final day of the season.

The 25-year-old has endured a tumultuous few years, with his career stuttering in the wake of his move from Valencia to Barcelona in 2016.

The midfielder has found a new lease of life on Merseyside and he has again cropped up on Spurs’ radar, with the north London side requiring a ball carrying central midfielder following the departure of Mousa Dembele at the turn of the year.

Of the 72 players to have attempted 50 or more dribbles, Gomes has the fifth best dribble success rate (73.2%) in the Premier League this season to reinforce a statistically calculated WhoScored strength of 'dribbling'.

Marco Silva is able to call upon Gomes for the final league game of the campaign on Sunday after the player served the third and final match of a three-game ban in last week’s 2-0 win over Burnley.
