Tottenham must meet release clause to land midfield target
Tottenham are keen on signing Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini this summer, but must trigger his £26.5m release clause to secure his services, according to The Athletic.
Spurs are looking to inject some creativity into the midfield in the off-season and have been monitoring the 25-year-old.
Injury ruled Pellegrini out of Euro 2020 on the back of an impressive Serie A campaign that saw him score seven times for Roma and provide an additional six assists.
His good form in a Roma shirt last season means the Italian giants will be reluctant to lose one of their prized assets, but they would have little choice but to accept Spurs' offer were they to meet that release clause.
Tottenham are yet to make any signings following the summer appointments of Fabio Paratici and Nuno Espirito Santo as director of football and head coach, respectively, but new faces are expected before the season kicks off in four weeks' time.
Pellegrini won seven WhoScored man of the match awards in Serie A in 2020/21, one of the better returns in the league.
