Chelsea determined to sign £50m-rated defender

Chelsea are determined to sign Juventus left-back Alex Sandro in a £50m deal this month, reports The Daily Mirror.

Antonio Conte wants to bolster his squad in the January transfer window and has rekindled his interest in Sandro after missing out on his signature in the summer.

Juventus refused to sell the Brazil international before the start of the season but 26-year-old is unhappy in Italy and that could swing a deal in Chelsea’s favour.

Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in Sandro but Chelsea have made the first move in a bid to steal a march on their Premier League rivals.

Conte ruled out a move for Juventus centre-back Giorgio Chiellini on Tuesday but does want to sign his team-mate this month, which would pave the way for Kennedy to leave on loan.

Sandro has largely been immense for Juventus since joining the Serie A giants from Porto in 2015 and now looks set to become one of the most expensive defenders of all-time.

In fact, only Paulo Dybala (7.61) has garnered a higher Serie A rating for Juventus than Sandro (7.59) since the start of last season.
