Barcelona have announced Lionel Messi will be sidelined for at least three weeks after suffering a slight groin tear in their 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.
Messi, 29, limped off just prior to the hour mark after pulling up with a groin injury after sprinting to get on the end of a heavy touch.
Barcelona were 1-0 up when he departed and conceded the equaliser just a few minutes later and the La Liga champions have since confirmed he will be out for at least three weeks leaving him a huge doubt for their Champions League encounter with Manchester City midway through October.
In four previous encounters with City he has played a direct hand in four goals (2 goals, 2 assists). Not only that, but Messi has been decisive in three goals in two games against a Pep Guardiola side.
