Inter will rekindle their interest in Luiz Gustavo and attempt to sign the midfielder when the January transfer window opens, reports Corriere dello Sport, via Get German Football.
Stefano Pioli’s side are determined to side a defensive midfielder in the winter transfer window following Gary Medel’s long-term injury lay-off and have turned their attentions to Gustavo, who can also fill in at the heart of the defence too.
Gustavo has been desperate to leave the Bundesliga outfit all season, similarly to former teammate Julian Draxler, and is expected to get his wish next month.
Inter have reportedly already wrapped up a deal to sign Liverpool midfielder Lucas on loan for the remainder of the season but reports suggest they are keeping that move on hold as they try to land first choice target Gustavo.
Gustavo, whose current deal is due to expire in 2018, has spent the last four seasons with Wolfsburg following a move from Bayern Munich in 2013. In that time, only Naldo (285) has completed more interceptions than Gustavo (240).
