Man City close in on shock Ronaldo signing

Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus as an alternative to Harry Kane, reports Manchester Evening News.

City are in the market for a striker following Sergio Aguero's move to Barcelona and had targetted Kane as the player to fire the Cityzens to domestic and continential glory.

However, City were unable to convince Spurs to sell their prized asset, who on Wednesday confirmed he would be staying at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

That saw City switch targets to Ronaldo, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Juventus for much of the summer.

The defending Premier League champions are negotiating with Juventus and are confident they can secure Ronaldo's services for around £25m.

Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, has been offering the 36-year-old around Europe's top clubs, with a move to PSG also rumoured to be on the cards as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who is believed to be set for a move to Real Madrid.

Ronaldo ended last season as the top scorer in Serie A, hitting the back of the net 29 times for the Old Lady.
