Wolfsburg midfielder pens new deal

Wolfsburg have announced midfielder Maximillian Arnold has signed a three-year extension to his current deal keeping him at the club until June 2020.

Arnold, 21, had the best part of 16 months remaining on his current deal but Wolfsburg have moved to secure his long-term services.

The Germany international became the club’s youngest ever debutant in the Bundesliga in 2011 and has quickly established himself as a first-team regular.

“In Maxi Arnold, we are delighted to have bound a top-performer to the club for the long-term and also hold onto a person who is seen as a figure of identification by the fans,” Wolfsburg’s sporting director Klaus Allofs told their club’s website.

“Together with Robin Knoche, he is the best example of how, through hard-work and talent, you can make your way through the youth teams to become a successful Bundesliga player.”

Arnold has had five shots in the Champions League this season, all of which have come from outside the box, furthering his statistically calculated strength of ‘long shots’.
