Barcelona, Bayern and Juventus hoping to extend remarkable records
The league leaders in Spain, Germany and Italy are all looking to both protect and build upon outstanding streaks this weekend, though all face tricky fixtures to do so.
Barcelona travel to Sevilla boasting the longest unbeaten run away from home this season (15), as one of only four sides yet to lose on their travels in the league in world football. Another is Napoli, who are also in action away from home as they visit Sassuolo this evening, aiming to put the pressure on Juventus at the top.
The reigning Serie A champions play in the late kick-off in Italy after all, hosting in form AC Milan - who are on the longest winning streak in Italy at present. That particular run will be put to the test against Max Allegri’s charges, however, who will be aiming for an 11th consecutive clean sheet in Serie A - a record that would put them level at the top with Montenegrin league leaders Sutjeska in the would this season.
Elsewhere Bayern Munich host Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker, knowing that if Schalke were to fail to beat Freiburg earlier this afternoon that they would be crowned Bundesliga champions for the sixth year running with a victory over their rivals. The Bavarians are one of a number of sides yet to lose at home all season.
As far as winning streaks are concerned, Slovenian side Domzale boast the longest of those in action today (eight matches) as they travel to NK Krsko, while there’s is a streak that many could only dream of.
Indeed, Scottish Championship outfit Brechin could go 30 matches without a league win when they travel to Falkirk this afternoon, having lost every single away game in the league this season (14). Meanwhile, that’s a record Benevento can match in Serie A, also without a single point in 14 away games as they prepare to face Lazio in Rome.
