Real Madrid eye Neymar as Pogba alternative

Real Madrid will try and sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain if they fail to prise Paul Pogba away from Manchester United, claims ESPN.

The Spanish giants have been heavily linked with a move for Pogba all summer but are running out of time to get a deal over the line.

United do not want to sell Pogba and it is believed a bid in excess of £150m would have to be submitted in order to land the Frenchman.

Madrid offered United £27.6m bid plus James Rodriguez in return for Pogba but that was quickly rejected by the Red Devils.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have questioned whether Madrid are serious about signing Pogba and are angry at their pursuit of the 26-year-old.

The transfer window for English clubs shuts on Thursday and United will hope to draw a line under the saga if a deal is not completed by then.

Spanish clubs still have a few weeks left to complete their transfer dealings but United would not be able to replace Pogba until January if he left beyond Thursday.

Real Madrid eye Neymar as Pogba alternative

Madrid have already signed Eden Hazard from Chelsea to occupy the left flank but it has now emerged they will target Neymar if they cannot land Pogba.

Neymar is desperate to leave PSG just two years after completing a world record move from Barcelona and the French side are willing to sell to anyone.

A return to Barcelona appears unlikely and PSG doubt whether Madrid would match their valuation of the Brazil international.

PSG paid £200m to sign Neymar and would want to recoup their full investment at the very least.

Despite his woes on and off the pitch over the last two years, Neymar has still played a direct hand in 54 goals in 37 league appearances for PSG.
