David de Gea has made it clear he wants to put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with Manchester United but is refusing to budge from his wage demands of £350,000-a-week, claims The Daily Mirror.
United are desperate to secure De Gea’s long-term future and remain confident a compromise will be met in contract talks with the Spaniard’s representatives.
De Gea has been named United’s player of the year in four of the last five seasons and has developed into arguably the best goalkeeper in the world.
The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the past but wants to be made one of the top-earning players at Old Trafford in order to renew.
De Gea was concerned about the direction the club were heading under Jose Mourinho but that obstacle in talks has been removed since the Portuguese was sacked before Christmas.
After his early struggles this season, De Gea has now kept four clean sheets in his last six appearances. Since August 2015, De Gea has kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League (53).
