Swansea to beat Newcastle for Chelsea striker

Swansea are on the verge of beating their Premier League rivals to the signature of Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham, reports The Daily Mail.

Abraham does not feature in Antonio Conte’s immediate plans and is free to leave Stamford Bridge on another loan spell after thriving in the Championship with Bristol City last season.

Newcastle and Brighton, who were both promoted to the Premier League last season, have been heavily linked with a move for the Chelsea youngster, who is currently away with the England U21 squad in Poland for the European Championships.

However, Swansea have entered the race and beaten their Premier League rivals to Abraham’s signature, owing most of that to manager Paul Clement, who will be familiar with the 19-year-old during his time at Chelsea coaching through various age groups.

His arrival would be a great way for Swansea to start the summer after prioritising the need to sign a striker following the failures of club record signing Borja Baston, who joined for £15m last summer.

Only Leeds United striker Chris Wood (27) scored more goals in the Championship last season than Abraham (23). In fact, all 23 of Abraham’s goals were scored inside the penalty box.
