Former Arsenal striker shrugs off transfer talk

Former Arsenal striker Benik Afobe insists he will not let transfer speculation effect him in January like it did over the summer.

Afobe, 22, joined Wolves from Arsenal at the start of the year and his performances in the second half of the season led many to suggest he would return to the Premier League.

However, the former England Under-21 international has learnt from his experiences and is determined not to let any transfer rumours unsettle him this time around.

“In the summer it was strange, I’ve never had it in my career before. You turn on Sky Sports and see your name on breaking news and you’ve got a game to play the next day, it is difficult when it’s the first time,” Afobe told the Express & Star.

“But I think I’m going to be more experienced when it comes to January now - it definitely won’t affect me. It’s a compliment if a team from a higher division is even just inquiring about you.

“There’s no suggestion I’ll be going anywhere. In football you can never say anything but we’ve got so many games until January, to be honest I’m not even thinking about next Saturday’s game.”

Since joining Wolves at the start of 2015, only two players have scored more goals in the Championship than Afobe (20).
