Crystal Palace are on the verge of sacking Alan Pardew with former England manager Sam Allardyce favourite to succeed the under pressure 55-year-old, reports The Daily Mail.
Pardew will be in charge for the welcome of Southampton this weekend but his future beyond this game remains less clear-cut following a disastrous 2016 that has seen the Eagles average fewer points per game than any team in England’s top four tiers (0.68).
Palace threw away a 4-3 lead with six minutes of normal time remaining to lose 5-4 to relegation rivals Swansea last weekend that has left the Englishman’s job on a knife-edge.
The Eagles will reportedly sack Pardew should they lose their sixth consecutive Premier League match at the weekend, with Allardyce in line to be offered the job.
Allardyce has been out of work since being sacked as England manager at the end of September after serving just 67 days in charge of the national team.
The former West Ham manager was sacked after being caught in a sting advising on how to ‘get around’ rules of player recruitment implemented by the very employers that made him England manager after Euro 2016.
Of the teams to feature in both Premier League campaigns in 2016, Palace have won the fewest points in England’s top tier (22).
