Martinez slams Evans deal

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has categorically denied his side are about to sign Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.

Reports had emerged in the last few days claiming the Northern Ireland international was on the verge of completing a deal in the region of £8m with the Toffees.

However, that is simply not the case according to the Everton boss.

"It's not true. There’s nothing. I always said I'm not going to be commenting publicly on any of the names that have been shared around but I can tell you clearly that there is nothing true in that story," he told reporters.

United are looking to offload the 27-year-old this summer after nine years at the club. The academy graduate looked completely devoid of confidence last season and has dropped significantly down the pecking order under Louis van Gaal.

Evans saw first team chances limited last season, making 12 starts in the Premier League and missing a further six games through suspension.
