Chelsea striker Abraham makes decision about international future

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is prepared to ignore Nigeria’s advances and opt to play for England if selected by Gareth Southgate for the upcoming international break, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Abraham’s future at international level has been the topic of hot debate since the beginning of the season, with the Nigerian Football Federation pushing hard to secure the 21-year-old’s future.

The Chelsea forward is eligible to play for Nigeria through his father, who has a close relationship with the president of the Nigerian FA, Amaju Pinnick.

Abraham has already won two caps for the senior England squad but they were only friendlies and he can still switch international allegiance until he plays in a competitive match.

Southgate will name his England squad for upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Bulgaria and Abraham will accept a call-up if selected.

Abraham has made an impressive start to the season with seven goals in seven league appearances with Chelsea, including a hat-trick against Wolves.

In fact, only Robert Lewandowski (10) and Sergio Aguero (eight) have scored more goals than Abraham in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
