Milan consider January approach for last season’s player of the year

AC Milan have made contact over a January move for Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez reports Italian publication Calciomercato.

Mahrez has struggled for his best from this season following a stunning campaign for the Foxes as they secured an unlikely title win.

Milan, meanwhile, are in need of a new winger and have explored the possibility of signing Manchester United outcast Memphis Depay.

However, Mahrez now tops the Italian side’s most wanted list, with Milan’s new sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli identifying the Algerian as a possible arrival.

It’s expected that Leicester will be without Mahrez for up to a month in the New Year due to Algeria’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.

That, though, won’t deter Milan, who may make a move for the 25-year-old once the transfer window opens, yet could struggled to convince Leicester to sell.

The Foxes rejected a £30m bid from Arsenal for Mahrez’s services in the summer and instead penned a new deal at the King Power Stadium, which runs until 2020.
