Manchester City could sign Jonny Evans for £3m

Manchester City and Arsenal target Jonny Evans will be available for just £3m this summer if West Brom are relegated from the Premier League, reports BBC Sport.

Evans, 30, has been heavily linked with a move to City and Arsenal as both Premier League giants look to bolster their defensive options during the January transfer window.

The former Manchester United defender has been valued in excess of £20m by West Brom but suitors could gamble on the Baggies’ fate in the Premier League with a view to prising him away for as little as £3m in the summer.

It has now been revealed that Evans has a release clause of £3m that will become active if West Brom are relegated to the Championship this season, although Alan Pardew’s side will not take that into consideration if they sell this month.

While West Brom want Evans to stay, Pardew knows that the funds generated from his sale will be made available to sign a new striker and help solve their goalscoring problem.

In the last three Premier League campaigns, only Simon Francis (380) and Laurent Koscielny (357) have won possession in the defensive third more times than Evans (342).
