Manchester United in advanced talks to sign Jadon Sancho

Manchester United are in advanced talks with Borussia Dortmund over a fee for Jadon Sancho, claims The Guardian.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have been pursuing Sancho for the best part of 12 months and have accelerated talks in the last week after securing Champions League football for next season.

Sancho has spent the past three years at Dortmund and developed into one of the best young talents in Europe but now he wants to return to England.

United have a free run at signing Sancho this summer and reports have even emerged suggesting a transfer could be completed by the end of the week.

Sancho will sign a five-year deal with United until the summer of 2025 and talks with Dortmund are now at an advanced stage.

The two sides are locked in discussions around an initial €100m (£90m) fee that would make Sancho the most expensive English player of all-time.

United are desperate to structure a deal based on payments being made over the next few years as a direct consequence of the coronavirus pandemic.

A deal for Sancho is expected to be worth well in excess of £100m when factoring in performance related add-ons, as United move closer to handing Solskjaer his No.1 transfer target.

While Dortmund insist they are happy to keep Sancho for another season, they are keen to offload the 20-year-old before pre-season starts properly on August 10.

The Bundesliga outfit want a deal concluded as soon as possible so they can take their time lining up Sancho's replacement and strengthen the squad elsewhere.

Sancho was in superb form in 2019/20, finishing the season with 17 goals and 16 assists in the Bundesliga.

The England international was the first player in Europe's top five leagues to reach double figures for both goals and assists this season.

Moreover, only Robert Lewandowski (38) and Timo Werner (36) scored or assisted more goals than Sancho (33) in the Bundesliga this season.
