Wenger confirms Arsenal will go for Monaco ace next summer
Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal failed to convince Thomas Lemar to join the club this summer but will try their luck again in 12 months.
The Gunners had a stunning £92m offer accepted by Monaco on deadline day only for Lemar to turn down a move to the Emirates.
Lemar reportedly had no interest in joining any side competing in the Europa League this season, while a move to Liverpool is understood to be his preferred option at this time.
However, Wenger has not been put off the 21-year-old and has confirmed the Gunners will make another move for the France international next summer.
“€100m for Lemar? Yes all true, I wanted him,” Wenger told French outlet Telefoot, via The Daily Mirror. “He decided to stay at Monaco, we will come back for him.”
Lemar has made a bright start to the new season, providing two assists in Monaco’s opening four league matches. In fact, Lemar has registered the most assists from set-pieces in Ligue 1 since the start of last season (7).
