Liverpool defender emerges as shock target for Serie A trio

Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren has emerged as a summer target for Serie A trio Napoli, AC Milan and Roma, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Croat has made just nine league starts for the Reds this season and has fallen down the pecking order for Jurgen Klopp’s side, with injuries to Joe Gomez and Joel Matip playing a role in the defender making as many starts as he has.

Liverpool are expected to listen to offers for Lovren this summer, with the Serie A threesome considering a move for the 29-year-old.

Roma and Napoli run the risk of losing key centre-backs Kostas Manolas and Kalidou Koulibaly, respectively, in the off season, with Lovren viewed as a successor in Rome and Naples.

With Gomez back in training now, Lovren may find first team opportunities hard to come by in the coming campaign and Liverpool are prepared to sell the former Southampton defender to help strengthen elsewhere.

Lovren has also suffered due to injuries this season, but has flattered to deceive when called upon and despite a fine World Cup, he could be shipped out of Anfield this summer.
