Tottenham look to hi-jack Leicester’s move for Tielemans
Tottenham are looking to fill their midfield shortage by signing Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans, claims The Daily Telegraph.
Tielemans has been made available for loan in the wake of Leonardo Jardim’s return to the club.
Leicester are working on a deal for the Belgium international but now face serious competition from Tottenham.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is ready to strike a deal with Monaco but is just waiting for Mauricio Pochettino to sign off on the transfer.
A decision will need to be made quickly as the transfer window shuts on Thursday and Tottenham’s interest may trigger Leicester to accelerate talks.
Tielemans has been one of very few positives for Monaco this season and it was only under Thierry Henry that he captained the Principality side.
However, the Ligue 1 strugglers have immediately transfer listed the 21-year-old following Jardim’s return.
Only Radamel Falcao (8) has scored more league goals than Tielemans (5) for Monaco this season.
Furthermore, of Monaco players to have made at least 20 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, Tielemans is their highest WhoScored rated player (6.94).
