Inter will have to do without captain Mauro Icardi for the next two-matches after the league’s disciplinary body took retrospective action against the controversial star in their 1-0 defeat to Juventus at the weekend.
Stefano Pioli’s side lost their cool at the end of their defeat to Juventus on Sunday, which was their first league defeat since the start of December, as they were reduced to 10 men following Ivan Perisic’s red card for arguing with official Nicola Rizzoli.
Icardi was also involved in a heated exchange with the matchday officials and even kicked a ball at the referee, although he remained on the pitch for the remainder of the game.
However, the league have taken retrospective action against Icardi and hit Inter’s captain with a two-game ban pending their right to appeal. The 23-year-old is now set to miss upcoming fixtures against Empoli and Bologna.
No player has scored or assisted more goals in Serie A this season than Icardi (23).
