Tottenham are interested in signing Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez this summer, reports The Daily Mail.
Mauricio Pochettino has made finding a striker to compete with Harry Kane one of his main priorities this summer.
Tottenham have previously signed Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen to carry out that role but both are expected to leave the club this summer.
Pochettino has instead utilised Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura in Kane’s absence but wants to address the issue properly this summer.
Tottenham have earmarked Gomez as a potential transfer target, though the Celta Vigo striker has a £43.5m release clause in his current deal.
West Ham were keen to sign Gomez in January and are reportedly still interested in signing the Uruguay international at the end of the season.
Gomez wants to play for a club in European competition and that could well prove West Ham’s undoing, particularly with Tottenham now interested.
Celta Vigo may have to settle for less than his release clause if they fail to beat the drop this season, with only two points separating themselves and the bottom three.
Gomez has played a direct hand in 16 league goals this season despite Celta’s struggles, though has only scored three league goals in 2019.
