Emre Can has given his biggest indication that he stay at Liverpool this summer after labelling next season as a big one for his time at the club.
The Germany international has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal and has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus.
Jurgen Klopp is adamant the 23-year-old will not be leaving Liverpool this summer and Can believes next season is a pivotal one for his career.
“It’s a big season [for me] and I think it’s a big season for the team as well,” he told Liverpool’s official website. “Last season we did quite well but we could do better, so we will try to do it better this year and push on.
“Myself, I want to push on as well and I want to have good confidence and play a good season. Last season was not my best season, to be honest.
“It was difficult for me at the beginning with a few calf problems and everything, but at the end of the season I felt very good, I think I played OK and I want to push on and go in with that feeling at the start of the season.”
The fact Liverpool have now ended their pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita will only enhance Can’s chances of establishing himself as a first-team regular under Klopp, although he is currently vying with Georginio Wijnaldum for one final spot in Liverpool’s midfield three.
Despite only starting 26 Premier League games last season, only Christian Benteke (81) committed more fouls than Can (70).
