Manchester City midfielder set for summer exit

Fabian Delph days are numbered at Manchester City with the impending arrival of Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo, claims The Daily Mail.

City have been given the green light to sign Rodrigo in a deal worth £63m and are expected to fend off competition from Bayern Munich for his signature.

Rodrigo has been earmarked as Fernandinho’s long-term replacement but his arrival will only push Delph downing the pecking order.

The England international turned down the chance to leave City two seasons ago and has proved a more than useful squad player for Guardiola.

However, Delph barely featured for City towards the end of last season and he faces the prospect of even limited game time next term.

City have decided not to sell Ilkay Gundogan this summer despite the fact he could leave the club for nothing at the end of next season, but will listen to offers for Delph.

The 29-year-old has already attracted surprise interest from Turkish side Galatasaray but it would be a surprise if other Premier League sides were not sniffing around for his services.

Delph only made five appearances in all competitions for City in 2019, making just one Premier League appearance as a substitute away to Huddersfield in January.

In Guardiola’s three years in England, City have lost just one of the 47 league matches that Delph has not started compared to five defeats in the 29 league games he has started.
