Tottenham accelerate Romero talks

Tottenham are hoping to complete a double raid of Atalanta with Cristian Romero following Pierluigi Gollini to the club, reports Gianluca Di Marzio.

Gollini is travelling to London to complete his Tottenham medical ahead of an initial season-long loan deal and talks are progressing for Romero.

The 23-year-old, who play a key role in Argentina's Copa America win this summer, has agreed personal terms with Tottenham for a five-year deal.

Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici is now ironing out a fee with Atalanta, who are holding out for €55m (£47m).

Romero is currently on loan at Atalanta from Juventus but the Serie A outfit will make his switch permanent for €18m (£15.4m) before cashing in.

Tottenham are hoping an initial bid of €40m-45m plus a further €10m in add-ons will be enough to clinch Romero's services.

The Argentina international was a standout performer for Atalanta last season, excelling in both Serie A and the Champions League.

Romero made the most interceptions in both Serie A (96) and the Champions League (30) last season, finishing as the top rated centre-back in each competition.
