Roma will face competition from Serie A rivals Inter for the signature of Sporting ace Bruno Fernandes, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.
Fernandes is expected to be a free agent this summer as the Portugal international is in the process of terminating his current deal with Sporting.
The Portuguese giants face the prospect of losing over £100m worth of talent for nothing this summer following a training ground incident last season.
Roma have also been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old but now Inter have entered the race for his signature.
Luciano Spalletti hopes to make a number of high profile additions this summer after Inter secured their return to the Champions League for next season.
Inter passed on the chance of signing Barcelona midfielder Rafinha on a permanent deal worth in the region of €35m.
Spalletti’s side have already met with Fernandes’ representatives and it would be a stellar signing on a free transfer.
Fernandes scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 33 league appearances last season, winning the WhoScored Man of the Match award on six occasions.
Furthermore, of players that made at least six appearances in the Europa League last season, Fernandes had the highest WhoScored rating (8.00).
