Zlatan Ibrahimovic is on the radar of one of Spain’s biggest clubs
Atletico Madrid could offer Zlatan Ibrahimovic the chance to prolong his career in one of Europe’s major leagues when their FIFA-imposed transfer ban is lifted in January, reports Dario Sport, via Football Espana.
Diego Simeone believes Ibrahimovic can offer the same qualities as his former Atletico teammate Christian Vieri and will continue to monitor his progress in the build up to the January transfer window.
The 35-year-old is currently recovering from a serious knee injury sustained in April and isn’t expected to return to full fitness until the end of the year leaving his long-term future up in the air.
Manchester United have opted against renewing his contract, which is due to expire at the end of the month, but have given Ibrahimovic full access to their training facilities in order to make the best recovery possible.
Ibrahimovic is expected to move to MLS next year as his glittering career winds down, but Atletico could make a surprise move to prolong his career in one of Europe’s major leagues.
Simeone’s side are currently serving a transfer ban and won’t be able to register new players until January. Ironically, United wanted to sign Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann to play with Ibrahimovic next season and now it could be a partnership that is formed in Spain.
Despite only taking part for nine months of last season, Ibrahimovic has scored more Premier League goals than any other United player in the last two campaigns (17).
