Aston Villa Transfer News: Lutsharel Geertruida now a target for Villa

Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Feyenoord full-back Lutsharel Geertruida as the seek to add to their defence, reports Fabrizio Romano. 

The Dutch defender was previously linked with moves to Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham, with former Feyenoord boss Arne Slot reportedly keen to take him to Anfield. 

However, Geertruida has since emerged as a potential target for Villa as they seek to bring in another defender to potentially cover the departure of Diego Carlos. 

The Brazilian centre-back moved to Villa from Sevilla in 2022, though saw his debut campaign disrupted by an Achilles injury. 

Fulham have been linked with a move for Carlos, who is surplus to requirements at Villa Park, with head coach Unai Emery looking to strengthen ahead of their debut Champions League campaign. 

Villa may face competition from RB Leipzig for the 24-year-old, with the German side linked with a move for Geertruida last summer. The Netherlands international remains on RB Leipzig's radar.
