Hull City have announced they have appointed former Olympiakos manager Marco Silva on a deal until the end of the season.
The Tigers made the surprise announcement to sack Mike Phelan after less than three months in charge during the week and have been keen to make an appointment as quickly as possible.
Former Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett was among the candidates to replace the former Manchester United assistant, but Hull have placed their faith in the hands of Silva, who has been out of work since the end of the season.
“Marco is a young coach who has impressed us with his philosophy and football style,” Tigers vice-chairman, Ehab Allam, told the club’s official website.
“He has a great track record and we feel this is a bold and exciting appointment in our aim to retain the club’s Premier League status. Marco will be bringing in his own back-room team who have all played their part in his recent success.
“We are already working hard with Marco and his team to deliver some key additions to our squad during this transfer window.”

Hull are currently bottom of the Premier League and three points adrift of safety, although Silva has inherited a side that will contest the League Cup semi-final against United towards the end of the month.
Silva won his opening 17 league games at Olympiakos last term, the longest winning start to a European league season this millennium.
