Yaya Toure has issued an apology to Manchester City in compliance with the demand from Pep Guardiola.
The 33-year-old’s only appearance of the season came in City’s Champions League qualifier against Steaua Bucuresti at the end of August.
Guardiola, who cut short Toure’s Barcelona career, has come to blows with Toure’s agent already this season and insisted the veteran midfielder must apologise if he is to have any chance of featuring for the Premier League outfit again.
It has taken more than a month for the apology to come, but Toure has now taken the step to publically condone the behaviour from his representatives this season.
“I wish to apologise – on behalf of myself and those who represent me – to the management team and all those working at the club for the misunderstandings from the past,” Toure said in a statement on his official Facebook page.
“Those statements do not represent my views on the club or the people who work there. I have nothing but respect for Manchester City and only wish the best for the football club.
“I am immensely proud to have played a part in the club’s history and want to help City succeed further. I live to play football and entertain the fans.
“On that note, I would like to thank all of the fans for their messages through this difficult period. This means a great deal to me and my family.”
Of the 166 players to have attempted at least 100 dribbles in the last five Premier League seasons only two players have done so with a greater success than Toure (76.5%).
