Jose Mourinho was confident he would not be sacked by Chelsea following the 3-1 defeat to Southampton.
The Blues currently languish in 16th place following Saturday’s home loss to Saints and have won just eight points from the opening eight games of the season, heaping pressure on Mourinho.
Defeat to Saints was their fourth in the league this term and the west London side have now lost more Premier League matches this campaign than they did in the whole of last season (3 games).
However, the Portuguese boss remains confident that he won’t be shown the Stamford Bridge exit, insisting that he is the best manager in the club’s history.
“If the club sacks me, they sack the best manager that this club has ever had,” he said following Saturday evening’s defeat.
Chelsea’s poor form hasn’t been helped by a lackadaisical defence, which has shipped 17 league goals this season; only Sunderland (18) have conceded more.
