Roma have intensified their pursuit of Daniele Rugani with advanced talks planned with Juventus directors, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Serie A outfit have been on the market for a new centre-back since selling Kostas Manolas to rivals Napoli at the end of June.
Roma were previously linked with a move for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld but their interest subsided.
It has now emerged Rugani is Roma’s first choice transfer target and they hope to conclude a deal for the 25-year-old before the transfer market closes.
Rugani has failed to break into the Juventus first-team on a regular basis since returning from a loan spell with Empoli in 2015.
Rugani has dropped even further down the pecking order at Juventus this summer following the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax.
Roma are reportedly proposing a deal to Juventus that will be worth in the region of €25m (£22.9m).
In addition to that, Roma will also send youth players Zan Celar and Alessio Riccardi to Juventus.
Rugani appeared to have made a breakthrough in his career at Juventus in the 2017/18 campaign when Leonardo Bonucci joined AC Milan.
The Italy international started 22 league games that season but Juventus proceeded to re-sign Bonucci and Rugani started just 15 times in Serie A last term.
Juventus have only lost four of the 59 league matches Rugani has started since August 2015 (86% win ratio), compared to a win ratio of 70% when he has not featured from the off.
